Since yesterday I can't open my game with my launcher, it stuck on 'Preparing' forever. I've tried many things: delete files on.minecraft, log out my account, put off/on my firewall but nothing happened. This problem is only with the latest version of Minecraft (1.14.4) and I don't know why??2 days ago my game ran perfectly. I use to play Minecraft on Linux Ubuntu 12.04 and Minecraft launcher 1.6.89-j.For ADMIN: I bought the official game (I don't play on cracked version) and of course I wish to play with the latest launcher of Minecraft (because I'm convinced the problem is from the launcher) but I didn't find a solution to install it on my computer so I can't play with the new launcher yet.Anyone else have the same problem? Or found a solution?

Cross posted from here:I had the exact same problem. Seeing you are using an even older Ubuntu than I was, I believe this solution will work for you. I used 12.04 LTS for a very long time. I very much liked the Gnome classic interface - clean, less cluttered. I hated the 'Dasher', left side panel waste of screen realestate 14.04. Until I found gnome-session-flashback. Then I upgraded to 14.04 LTS.

I checked out 16.04LTS, and it was way harder to get completely rid of dasher and get back to a Gnome classic interface. So I never upgraded to 16.04. 18.04 does offer the flashback:sudo apt updatesudo apt install gnome-session-flashbackrebootSelect MetaCity at the Login prompt before logging in.Now I hate the fat cartoon-like nature of the interface in 18.04 - its like the screen resolution has been reduced (it is not, I checked.). It is a desktop not a 5' phone screen. It could have thin clean lines that speak to efficiency and precision when one has the precision of a mouse to navigate it.

You may not have upgraded fro different reasons. This is my solution to why Minecraft did not work. No one will like it, I sure did not.So, downloading the Minecraft.deb again from Minecraft.Net did not work. I discovered why when I ran the launcher from the command line:machine name:$ minecraft-launcherinstead of clicking the file in a window manager. I never knew one could do that, so, it only occurred to me to try after reading a lot of web pages. The new launcher required GLIBCXX3.4.20 and GLIBCXX3.4.21, neither of which my system had - Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. After trying to follow a lot of instructions, and learning, I think it is glibc 4.9.0 that had what I needed, and that I could not get it with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

Then the launcher worked, downloaded minecraft 1.14.4 and it worked. So I can only guess that my old launcher downloaded something on the very first failed try, a new piece of code that required a glibc I did not have, and that broke my minecraft permanently. Because I did not read the log on the very first failure, thinking it was just a failure to contact a licensing server or something that caused the launcher to apparently freeze, I have no idea what happened the very first time it failed. So I cannot be certain.

But I did nothing else that might have changed my minecraft in the hours between it working and not working. This was very inconvenient for me with my level of clue. I imagine this would be completely indecipherable to many players. So the test for whether this solution is required to fix your problem:Open a terminal window,cd to the directory where the Minecraft.jar or minecraft-launcher is located, and type:java-something Minecraft.jarorminecraft-launcherrespectively, repeat the problem, and check the terminal window for error messages not reported to the launcher logs. So yeah, to be clear, as of yesterday, Mojang broke 1.14.4 (it was working earlier yesterday and for a couple weeks before) for Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04. Ther have been three reports of the same problem at the same time. Being as it is unlikely 3 different people all made the same mistake, the problem almost certainly originated at Mojang, like when someone recompiled something and set it for automatic download by the launcher. The first poster: to report this problem was told they were a software pirate here:And dismissed.
